Allen Forest Zoo - Kanpur Zoological Park
The Allen Forest Zoo which is also known as the Kanpur Zoological Park or simply the Kanpur zoo is one of the oldest natural forest zoos and is situated about two kilometres away from the city of Kanpur in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is an ISO-14001:2004 certified zoo that is spread over an area of 76 hectares and acts as a natural habitat for its animals. The park also consists of a large lake, a botanical garden showcasing a rich variety of plants and an aquarium.
The construction of the Park started in the year 1971 by the Indian Government. It was opened for the public on 4th February 1974. The zoo is named in honour of great botanist Sir Allen, who was a member of the British Indian Civil Service.
Animals and birds that you can see at the Kanpur zoo include Leopard, Cheetah, White Asian Tigers, Jaguar, Asiatic Lions, Black Bear, Sloth Bear, Grizzly Bear, Hyena, Hippopotamus, civets Rhinoceros, Monkeys, Baboons, Languor, Musk deer, Deer, Chimpanzees, Orangutans, Gharial crocodiles, Mongoose, Civets, Hares, Rabbits, Porcupines, Squirrels, Bats, Lizards, Snakes, Pythons, Partridges, Peafowls, Parrots, Parakeets, Owls, Ostrich and a lot of other Indian, European and American birds. Most of the large animals are kept in modern enclosures but there are a lot of animals and birds like Deer, Monkeys, Rabbits, Squirrels, Pythons etc that are left to roam the zoo freely.

Ticket Prices - Rs. 70 for adults and Rs. 35 for 5 - 12 year age group.
