Aizawl Zoo - Mini Zoological Garden

Aizawl zoo is located in Bethlehem Vengthlang region in Aizawl, Mizoram and is a mini zoological garden that is home to some of the rare species of birds, mammals, and other endangered species. The common animals of the region are also seen in abundance. The Sun bear, the most endangered species identified in India is a special feature of Aizawl zoo and is a major attraction for people of all age groups. Other attractions include Burmese Peafowl, Leopard Cats, Hoolock Gibbon, Barking Deer, Brush-tailed Porcupine, Kalij Pheasant, Binturong, Sambar Deer, Hume's Pheasant, Himalayan Black Bear, Jackal, Goral, Assamese macaque, Himalayan Griffon, Stump-tailed macaque, Pigtail macaque, Wild pig, Serow, Reptiles, Tortoise, Capped langur and Clouded leopard.


Entry Fees and Timings

The zoo is open on all days of the week except for Monday when it is a weekly holiday. The zoo is open for visitors from 7 AM till 4.30 PM during the summer season and 8 AM in the morning till 5 in the evening during the winter season. This zoo does have an entry fee and you have to pay extra if you are carrying a camera.

November – February

- Tuesday to Saturday - 09:30 AM – 04:00 PM

- Sunday - 12:00 Noon – 04:00 PM

- Children (below 10 years) - Free entry

Visitor Information

The Zoo is spread over an area of 65 hectares on a mostly hilly landscape with soothing green vegetation and other natural features. The zoo visitors are advised to travel in groups. Also, the zoo closes by 4.30 PM officially so staying on zoo premises beyond official hours is not advisable. The visitors are also advised not to feed the animal, litter around the zoo or consume alcohol inside the zoo premises. The entire area of the Zoo is connected with a network of well-developed pathways having suitable numbers of public conveniences at appropriate locations. Visitors can carry their own drinking water and food inside.


Best Time to Visit

You can visit this zoo all year round but November to March is the best time to visit this zoo when the summer season sets in. The snowy Northeast regions give pleasant weather during this time which enables the animals to move around freely.
